FAQs

Why use professional pet sitting?

We offer consistent, loving care for your pet and peace of mind for you. Opting for a dog walk, drop-in visit or overnight with us allows your pet to maintain their schedule and routine while getting the care they need. Boarding facilities can be stressful or overstimulating for some pets, and on-demand pet sitting services lack the industry experience and consistency we offer. Our regular report cards allow you to see how your pet’s walk went, giving you peace of mind with every visit.

What types of pets do you care for?

Our clients include dogs, cats, horses, pigs, birds, turtles, rabbits, lizards and snakes. We love all animals and are available to care for any pet you have.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured and bonded through Pet Sitters Associates. We are happy to furnish a certificate upon request.

How do I sign up if I’m a new client?

To get started, click on any buttons that say: “Book Now” or “get started”. You will be directed to the app we use for scheduling and communicating, TimeToPet. You’ll be asked to fill out some preliminary information and once your form is submitted we will contact you ASAP. Additionally, you can go to the “contact us” page and use the contact form to send us a message and ask questions.

How do I book a walk, drop-in visit, or overnight?

The most efficient way to request or cancel visits is through the app we use, TimeToPet. In the app, click “schedule” and you’ll get the option to schedule new visits or to cancel/change existing visits.

How do walks work?

Walkers will arrive at your home, accessing it with the key, key code, or instructions provided. Your walker will leash up your pup, walk them for the requested amount of time in your neighborhood, and return home. Once home, water will be freshened and any other instruction provided will be followed (putting them in crate, feeding them, etc.). The walker will then depart, returning the key as instructed.

You’ll be notified when your walker arrives and leaves through through the TimeToPet app. You’ll also get a “report card” with info about the visit, and of course, cute pictures of your pets!

How do drop-in visits work?

Pet sitter will arrive at your home, accessing it with the key, key code, or instructions provided. You let your pet sitter know if you want them to let your dog out into a fenced-in backyard, walk your dog on-leash on your property, or play with your dog inside. The pet sitter will then depart, returning the key as instructed. This option is great for extreme weather so the dog can get outside for the bathroom, and then return inside for inside play.

You’ll be notified when your walker arrives and leaves through through the TimeToPet app. You’ll also get a “report card” with info about the visit, and of course, cute pictures of your pets!

What are your hours?

7 days a week. We work with clients to accommodate visit times that work best for your pets.

Do you service my town?

We currently service: Farmington, Rome, Belgrade, Mercer, Norridgewock, Oakland, New Sharon, Smithfield, Mt Vernon, and Vienna. If you live just outside our service area, feel free to reach out and we may be able to accommodate you.

How do I make a payment?

We accept payment with all major credit cards through the TimeToPet app. TimeToPet never stores or logs your credit card information (other than the last four digits). TimeToPet only integrates with payment processors that support remote storage of credit card information for the highest level of security. In other words, all of your credit card information is handled through the payment processor, not through TimeToPet or Maine Dog Walkers & Pet Sitters. The credit card on file is auto-charged on Sunday morning for the previous week’s walks. On Saturday morning, you’ll receive an invoice reminder about the upcoming charge via email.

How much does it cost for a dog walk?

Our prices are listed on our Services page and vary by length of time.

Do you charge extra for more than one pet?

Yes, we charge $3 for each additional pet.

Do you walk puppies?

Absolutely. We know that caring for and training a puppy requires careful and consistent care. If you are training, we will reinforce whatever you are working on so that they can get the consistency they need to be successful. When housetraining, we will schedule walks and visits at the necessary intervals.

Should I tip my care provider?

Gratuity is not required, but it is always appreciated when you choose to recognize the dedication and care that your care provider offers to you, your pets and your home. Your care provider will receive 100% of the gratuity should you decide to leave a tip.

What’s a meet and greet?

We like to suggest a meet and greet visit before our first walk or drop-in visit. With you present, your pet can safely and comfortably be introduced to us. This allows your pet to feel that they are in good hands, and it allows us to hear from you first hand about your pet’s needs. You can show us any training you’re working on, or how to prepare medication as needed so that we are well prepared to care for your pet. Plus, your pet will feel familiar and comfortable with us when we arrive for their first walk or drop in!

Do you administer medication for pets?

Yes, we can administer medication for your pet. We can dispense oral medications, transdermal medications, and injections.

What about bad weather?

We always do our best to get to your home to care for your pets—rain or shine, sleet or snow. We reserve the right to adjust walks or drop-in’s accordingly to ensure the safety of your pet.

As a general rule of thumb, walks will be capped at 20 minutes during extreme cold and extreme heat. During rain, sleet, and snow, we will use our best judgment to determine the appropriate length of time to walk your pup. Your invoice will reflect any change due to inclement weather.

Providing a raincoat and winter coat will keep your pup comfortable outside, and leaving a towel allows us to clean them up when returning from their walk.

What is your cancellation policy?

For cancellations made 24 hours before the scheduled visit, a full refund will be given. There will be a 50% charge for cancellations within 12 hours of the scheduled visit. You will be charged in-full if cancellation is made within your scheduled visit time block.

Do you offer pet care on holidays?

Absolutely! We offer all of our typical dog walks and drop-in visits on holidays. Holidays include: Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day; Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the following weekend; Christmas Eve, Christmas, December 26th; December 31st and January 1st.
